You Go Girl
April 15, 2015
Last week I had the opportunity to take some headshots and school announcement pictures. I know you’re thinking, “Wait, people have school announcement shoots?” My only response is that you should capture every big moment (at the minimum) in your life on camera. I don’t know about you, but to me, getting into any Doctoral program at the University of Florida is worth celebrating. Jasmine is currently finishing her Master’s Degree in Computer Science at North Carolina A&T State University and will be done this May.
We started off with taking headshots; Jasmine is a GEM Fellow and the National Gem Consortium requested a headshot of her to be posted on its website. The GEM fellowship is an amazing fellowship, offering full payment of tuition and fees, up to two paid summer internships with a GEM Employer Member, and a very generous living stipend for two years.
After the headshot shoot ceased, the fun began. We went down to City Center Park and the sky was just right. Jasmine started dancing, joking, and laughing, which made the shoot go by super quick. As you can tell, she’s a very pretty girl, but my goal wasn’t to capture her external beauty. As time progressed, I almost forgot we were at a shoot because we were having so much fun. The more she danced and laughed, the easier it was for me to achieve my goal of capturing how much of a beautiful person she is on the inside.
This fall Jasmine will be pursuing her PhD in Computer Science and working as a Research Assistant at the University of Florida. Jasmine’s Mantra... “There is nothing more important than being serious about your education.” – First Lady Michelle Obama
I could tell you about her intellect, that she’s a financial freedom coach, or that she was named to Atlanta Blackstar’s “12 Black Prodigies You’ve Probably Never Heard Of” list and The Roots’ 2014 Young Futurists list. But if I only had five words to describe her, I would just say that “Jasmine has a beautiful soul.”
Jasmine, Congrats on getting into your doc program! I would say good luck, but God’s favor, humility, and hard work trumps luck! Go Gators!
